Review - Age Of Gothic

Watching Age of Gothic was really interesting, it had so much information about all the history and different ways in which in Gothic era came about, from architecture, paintings, poems, book, landscapes, science and technology.

It told me all about the different people who were inspired to write books, build “castles” and make up things that made history. Books such as Dracula and Frankenstein were inspired by the times in the Gothic era. People loved the idea of ghosts and horror stories, the art and architecture that were made were based on their imagination, making creatures up and trying to make them real.

I find the Gothic era so interesting, the ruined castles and abbeys remind you of the times where people used to live in these places. The designs in homes and décor are so intricate and fascinating too. They were made so well and created a mood about the place which puts you back into that place.
Houses of Parliament were created and designed by a man called Augustus Pugin, he wanted to create, colour, pattern and design in everything.

The paintings of landscapes called the “sublime” showed you the fear of what the natural world can do – storm, mountains and waves were painted so well it gives you a sense that you could be there making you feel the intensity of the scene.

Books and comics were all different some based on ghosts, some based demons, witches or anything ghoul like. They framed the beginning of what our horror is like now, it’s been carried on throughout all these years and still people thrive of it.

I found these programmes full of history and it taught me a lot about the different things that brought the Gothic era about. If anyone was interested in Gothic Horror I would definitely recommend this programme.
